Grand Cherokee:
Jeep set the benchmark in ‘go-anywhere ability’ in the ’40s, and whilst competition may have caught up in many ways, the Grand Cherokee lineage still stands tall. The 4th generation, codenamed WK2 was born under Stellantis management and uses Italian maker’s (VM Motori) engines in diesel guise. Though these have not carried over the sturdiness of the previous generation, they are in truth better than the internet proclaims them to be. Examples with 400+k km on the original engine are easily found in the classifieds. ZF gearbox is as good as they come, electrical issues are not common and the build quality is very good (in comparison to its much more expensive German rivals). Oh, and with its ground clearance and trick AWD system, it’ll still get you anywhere.
